ANNOUNCEMENT: CDL 2021 – RECAP OF THE SEASON SO FAR

With the first Call of Duty League Major of the season finished, we look at the winners and losers of the season so far as we move ahead to Stage II of the season, and the Toronto Ultra Home Series which starts on Thursday, March 18, at 7 PM GMT on YouTube.com/CODLeague.

SEASON SO FAR

ATLANTA DOMINANCE

Atlanta FaZe’s victory during the first Major tournament has set the tone for this season as the team to beat by remaining undefeated so far this season, while earning the $200K first prize and 75 CDL points. The FaZe’s victory over Dallas Empire was a statement performance that did not go unnoticed by fans and teams.

It is no surprise that Atlanta make-up three of the four spots in the Major Team of the Week

RAVENS ROOTED TO THE BOTTOM

The London Royal Ravens have been the poorest performers so far this season and are the only team to not yet pick-up a win. The new roster will need to start to gel if they want to increase their league position and will be hoping their latest signing Zed who replaced Alexx due to personal reasons will be able to turn their fortunes around.

PARIS LEGION STUMBLE

The legion will be looking to kick-on when Stage II starts after an up and down start to the season. They have beaten Florida Mutineers and the Toronto Ultra teams but have also suffered four losses which sees them third off the bottom and pick-up only 30 CDL points so far, but with plenty of games still to play they will be hoping to hit form and jump up the league table.

WHAT’S NEXT?

STAGE II GROUPS

The Stage II group selection has now been made with the teams now sorted into their groups ahead of the Toronto Ultra Home Series:

Group A

  • Atlanta FaZe
  • Los Angeles Thieves
  • New York Subliners
  • Toronto Ultra
  • Los Angeles Guerrillas
  • London Royal Ravens

Group B

  • Dallas Empire
  • OpTic Chicago
  • Florida Mutineers
  • Paris Legion
  • Minnesota RØKKR
  • Seattle Surge

Fans will likely be looking forward to the Group B showdown between Dallas and OpTic Chicago. The two teams competed in the winner’s bracket semi-finals of the Stage I Major and the Empire won that thrilling series 3-2. On the other hand, in Group A, every team will be trying to hand Atlanta their first official series loss of the season.

WILL THE EMPIRE STRIKE BACK?

For Dallas, second place is not enough. It will be interesting to see how the Empire team bounces back from this surprising loss from the FaZe, who have now won six maps in a row against the Empire. But there is a lot of 2021 action left to make up for the Major Stage 1 loss.
